Services Provided: Brand Strategy (Brand DNA), Shopify Website Development
Introduction
Indigenous Kanata is a 100% Indigenous-owned platform that gives Indigenous artists a direct route to buyers who value authenticity over convenience. The brand's founding idea is simple to state and hard to build: reclaim the narrative around Indigenous art and culture, put ownership and compensation back in the hands of the artists telling those stories, and do it without slipping into the tokenism the category is full of. Our job was to turn that idea into a brand system and a working store that could carry it.
Project Overview
Objective:
Define a Brand DNA that could hold up across very different audiences, Indigenous communities, corporate partners, tourists, and the general public, without diluting the core message. Then build a Shopify site that could actually sell products against that brand.
Our Approach
Brand DNA. Before design and development began, we worked collaboratively with Charlene to formalize Indigenous Kanata's Brand DNA: purpose, positioning, audiences, pillars, voice and tone. Charlene brought the cultural direction, language, audience understanding, and vision at the heart of the brand, while FuseHub helped structure and refine those elements into a brand framework to guide future decisions and communications.
Marketing and Go-to-Market Strategy. Alongside the Brand DNA work, we worked with Charlene to translate Indigenous Kanata's existing business priorities and audience knowledge into a phased go-to-market approach across key buyer groups, including tourists, retailers, corporations and other organizational buyers. Together, we identified product placement, messaging, and collaboration opportunities and developed a roadmap to support growth beyond the initial launch.
Shopify Build. The brand work came first because a platform built on Indigenous ownership and cultural integrity needed a digital presence that accurately reflected the vision, values, and voice already at its foundation. The result is a brand and Shopify platform shaped through close collaboration between Indigenous Kanata's cultural and business vision and FuseHub's brand strategy, design and development expertise.
Results
The Brand DNA was developed from 2025 into early 2026, and the Shopify store has successfully launched, giving Indigenous Kanata a working platform built on that foundation.
Conclusion
This was brand strategy and development work done in sequence: define what the platform stands for and how it speaks to different audiences, then build a store that reflects it accurately. The brand work happened first because a platform built on Indigenous ownership and authenticity does not get a second chance to get its own presentation right. Results update to follow.
